Despite all this, Precious has a dream to become someone loved and admired. The story goes into colourful episodes of her fantasies, illustrating the way she wants to live her life and be seen by the world. At school, a sympathetic teacher who knows her plight gets her to an alternative high school where she finally learns to read and write, and make friends for the first time. Through that, she summons the courage to escape her mum in exchange for a better life for herself and her two children.
Gabby Sidibe`s and Monique Imes` disturbingly convincing deliveries are powerful, and Mariah Carey`s presence also adds to the `glitter` of the film. Eight years after her failed attempt in acting, the singer`s performance here proved herself worthy to be called an `actress` after all. Together, the three of them deliver such emotionally electrifying scenes that will surely hit you in the gut.
