Zhang Yimou`s The Flowers Of War triumps at China`s box office

3.71 million tickets were sold for the 2-D Flowers compared to 3.25 million for the 3-D Swords. The average nationwide admission fees were RMB41 ($6.47) and RMB44 ($6.95) respectively.

One year ago, Jiang Wen`s Let the Bullets Fly took RMB181.5 million ($28.65 million) over its first four days. One week later, Feng Xiaogang`s If You are the One II made RMB209.6 million ($33.08 million) in five days.

After three weeks on release, Daniel Lee`s White Vengeance was in third place this weekend with RMB15.5m ($2.45 million). The period epic has now made RMB151.8 million ($23.95 million).

On their second week on release, South Korea`s Sector 7 and India`s 3 Idiots (2009) have now grossed RMB21.4 million ($3.38 million) and RMB12.3 million ($1.94 million) respectively.

The 3-D Sector 7 now holds the record as China`s highest grossing South Korean film release. 200 Pounds Beauty (2006), Scandal Makers (2008) and Musa: The Warrior (2001) made approximately RMB16 million ($2.5 million) and RMB14.3 million ($2.3 million) and RMB12 million ($1.9 million) respectively.

High profile films by two female directors open this weekend, Barbara Wong`s melodrama Allure of Tears and Xu Jinglei`s thriller Dear Enemy.
