As gangster yarns go, Stand Up Guys actually has a pretty unique premise. Val (Pacino) is an old-time gangster, just released from twenty-eight years in the slammer. His best friend Doc (Walken) is at the jail gates to pick him up, but also to murder him dead at the behest of their boss Claphands (Mark Margolis). Naturally, emotional conflict throws a wrench into the proceedings, and the duo end up re-teaming with their old pal and driver Hirsch (Arkin) for a night of sordid adventure.
