Spring Breakers – Review

The premise is both simplistic and improbable: a group of girls (Hudgens, Gomez, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine) fund their spring break by robbing a diner. Partying, boozing and gangsta drive-bys ensue, the latter courtesy of Alien (Franco with corn-rows and gold teeth), an over-the-top criminal whom the girls end up hanging out with while on vacation. Mix this cocktail with a 1/4 cup of regret and 2 tablespoons of navel-gazing, add a mint leaf on top, and voila! Spring Breakers.

You may have noticed that we didn`t even bother to name the four girls, not so much an oversight on our part rather than a nod of recognition to the fact that Korine probably wanted them to be indistinguishable. They`re all blond, pretty, shallow and none too bright. The only exception to the rule is Faith (Gomez), dark-haired and sweet rather than bleach-blonde, and with a slightly more functional moral compass than her peersâ€
