Wee Li Lin`s Singapore Country and Tan Pin Pin`s two films, Yangtze Scribbler and Remember, can now be viewed in the Singapore Memory Project`s online portal singaporememory.sg.
Wee Li Lin says, “I`m thrilled that the extraordinary and inspirational musical story of Matthew Tan is recognized. Matthew pursued an art form, Country Music, so far removed from his own world and made such an impact in America and Singapore. He represents to me what Singaporeans are: culturally adaptable and adventurous. Singapore Country, is a heartfelt tribute to Matthew Tan. It traces the genesis of his 70`s hit song “Singapore Cowboy. It features rare archive footage and fan interviews. Li Lin has ten award-winning short films and two acclaimed feature films under her belt. In 2011, she graduated with an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU-Tisch Asia on a MDA scholarship.
For Tan Pin Pin “Yangtze Scribbler explores a set of mysterious drawings found in the stairwell of the infamous Yangtze Cinema. I cast these markings as cave markings viewed with curiosity by those unconnected with the milieu of The Yangtze. Meanwhile remember, is a playful performance of a cast of words inspired by the word remember. I want to inspire every citizen to question and preserve our experiences for future generations using what ever means they have, and to share this information with others. Pin Pin is best known for award-winning films Moving House, Singapore GaGa and Invisible City. They have been screened widely in Singapore and abroad.
