After all of two years since the last Underworld movie, the franchise is set to undergo a reboot. Priest scribe Cory Goodman will be writing the script. There are no other specifics that are known, and one can only guess if Kate Beckinsale, who starred as the protagonist in almost all the Underworld films, will return.
Walking in the footsteps of the Spiderman franchise is tricky business. The Spiderman franchise, which went through a reboot only five years after the close of its original trilogy (still an eternity compared to Underworld), is doing far weaker at the box office than originally expected. Is it a case of character fatigue, or simply that the reboot is far inferior to that of the original trilogy?
What’s interesting is that Underworld Awakening, the latest installment in the saga, is also the best performing one commercially. Which begs the question: why couldn’t they have rode on its success and proceeded with another sequel instead?
