Incendies

Directed by and Denis Villeneuve and adapted from a 2003 play by Wajdi Mouawad, a Lebanese playwright, Incendies then obliquely chronicles Nawal`s history, as her will soon plunges Simon and Jeanne deep in a Middle Eastern past that their mother never told them about.

The film cuts from Nawal`s turbulent past back to Melissa as she, listening to Radiohead on her iPod, makes her sojourn through war-ravaged sites. The soundtrack in the film is absolutely stellar, and the selection of Radiohead songs rise up at the right moments to magnificently despairing atmosphere, with Thom Yorke`s voice conveying the right amount of melancholy and mourning.

The casting and acting here is impeccable, with Lubna Azabal conveying every emotion with measured precision, from her dogged obstinacy to her silent anguish. Gaudette and DÃ
