The Divergent Series: Insurgent – new trailer and poster

The second part in the Divergent Series sees Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) on the run from the leader of the warp world they’re rebelling against, played by Kate Winslet.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, Woodley and James, along with pretty much of the original cast will reprise their roles with Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer among the newcomers in the second installment of the Divergent series which opens here on 19 March 2015.

Based on a trilogy of dystopian young adult novels written by Veronica Roth, the third film, Allegiant, will be split in two parts and released in March 2016 and March 2017. We know right!

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

It stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Naomi Watts, and Kate Winslet.

Divergent was written by first time author Veronica Roth and has topped The New York Times Best Seller list since being published in April 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins Publishers. Book sales of the “Divergent” trilogy have surged to nearly 22 million copies worldwide, up from 17 million at the time of DIVERGENT’s March 20, 2014 release.

Divergent grossed more than SGD$2.8 million in Singapore and more than US$267 million at the worldwide box office, making the film Lionsgate’s highest-grossing domestic box office release outside THE HUNGER GAMES and TWILIGHT franchises.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent opens 19 March 2015. It’ll be followed by The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1 in March 2016 and then The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 2 in March 2017.
