The Vow – Review

When she wakes up, she has severe memory loss and can’t seem to recall anything that happened in the past few years. While she does remember her family and her friends from her hometown, she has no recollection of moving and eventually falling in love with and then getting married to Leo.

So, what’s a guy to do when the love of his life doesn’t even recognise him? Well, he does everything in his power to make her fall in love with him again, dammit!

But, while Leo tries to woo his wife all over again, she seems perfectly comfortable going back to her old life and old bad habits, including an ex-fiance, Jeremy (Speedman). Eventually frustrated that his efforts aren’t even making a dent in her memory bank, Leo decides to give up. So is this the end of it or will she come around after all?

You’ll know from just the poster or the trailer just how soppy this movie is but, surprisingly, it isn’t as big a tearjerker as we expected. Perhaps it’s because the two leads seem a bit mismatched she genuinely seems uninterested in him or the fact that Leo’s frustration translates very well from the screen to the audience.

This isn’t a bad movie though, as long as you know that it’s going to be a romantic telling of love standing the test of time, blah blah. But, even though we’re not usually romantics at heart, we were definitely blown away that this is a true story and it was not the movie itself but the last screen shot that showed us the real-life couple and told us what happened to them that did it for us.

Oh, and Channing Tatum ain’t half-bad either.

Summary: If you believe in true love, you’ll already know how this movie ends, but watch it anyway.
