The Expendables 2 – Tops The Box Office

The Expendables 2 has raked in a cumulative gross of over $1.88M, surpassing the original film in just over eight days of release. The first film opened with a-then surprisingly strong weekend, taking over $800,000 at the Singapore box office; and ended up with a final box office of $1.85M in the same August period in 2010. The Expendables 2 surpassed that mark to earn over $1.2M by Sunday, and has made over $1.5M by the end of the long Hari Raya weekend. Industry estimates that the film will finish over $2.5M in the Singapore box office.

The Expendables 2 opened number 1 in the US as well last week. However the box office trend is reversed; with the sequel earning less than the original in the opening weekend – US$28.59M versus US$34.8M respectively.

Directed by Simon West, the highly anticipated sequel to the August 2010 worldwide box-office success (over US$274M worldwide), The Expendables 2 stars Sylvester Stallon, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarnegger, with newest cast members Liam Hemworth, Scott Adkins, martial arts legends Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme, as well as Chinese actress Yu Nan and the first female EXPENDABLE.

The Expendables: Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) are back — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard. Reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that`s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….
