Perspectives Film Festival to Shine Light on Social Issues

While many of the independently organized film festivals here tend to feature films that are more accessible or digestible, the Perspective Film Festival has forged its own reputation as one that ‘s adventurous and bold in terms of its curation. This year, the Perspective Film Festival 2014 will be maintaining its slightly avant-garde leanings while exploring a bleak but highly relevant social issue. The films will offer a look at the lives of the disenfranchised, and the struggles of those drifting on the fringes of society.

Seven diverse films will make up this year’s line-up. Just like previous editions, the slate includes a mix of older films and currents. Among the films in the line-up are Short Term 12, a critically-lauded film about the struggles of youth, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a film about a fictional rock and roll band fronted by a trans woman. Several workshops and talks with a focus on creative work that explores social justice themes will also be explored.
