We can expect the Ilo Ilo team to turn up in full force, considering that it`s up for some of the biggest prizes, including Best Feature, Best New Director, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Newcomer and Best Original Screenplay. Moreover, the attention of the movie industry will no doubt be trained even more squarely than usual on the Awards since it celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year.
Chen was ecstatic to hear the news. “I am completely overwhelmed still trying to breathe! I can`t believe it. It is a real gift to all the cast and crew who worked on the film.
It must have been all the sweeter for the fact that Chen`s idol, Ang Lee, leads the judging panel this year and must have played a role in nominating Ilo Ilo in all its categories.
Onscreen mother and son are no less thrilled. “Be careful what you wish for, actress Yeo Yann Yann warns, “It may just come true. I feel so blessed and am truly excited.
“I am very lucky to be nominated for my first film, chimes in the precocious Koh Jia Ler, whose naturalistic performance in the film has been winning rave reviews all over the world. “I hope to do Singapore proud.
“Just being nominated and representing Singapore is an honour, says producer Yuni Hadi. “Our journey has shown that there is a place for small, good quality films and I hope that this opens the doors for other Singapore films. We are learning so much through all we have experienced from winning the Cannes Camera d`Or til now.
