HK Forbidden Super Hero (Japanese) – Review

Kyosuke Shikijo (Ryohei) is a big, gentle lunk of a guy, the improbable offspring of a sexually repressed cop and a dominatrix mom. Kyosuke also has a secret. His genetics have given him the ability to tap into reserves of superhuman power, but only if he straps a pair of used (the point is overstated in the movie) panties to his face and breathes deep of the feminine odour. Given the perverse nature of the act, the undergarments act as both convenient disguise and unorthodox fashion statement, to say the least.

In a slightly masochistic way, we were actually rooting for HK Forbidden Super Hero to be entertaining; a movie this audaciously vulgar doesn`t come around that often. Alas, our depraved hopes were for nought; the movie starts out strongly enough, but soon becomes tedious once its shock value has worn off.

Hentai Kamen`s hijinks are accompanied by low-budget CGI and fight sequences so badly choreographed they`re almost entertaining. We`re not necessarily complaining about the movie`s execution; on the contrary, the way director Fukuda Yuichi presents the film necessitates a lowbrow aesthetic, and the movie has its moments of offbeat charm. The main problem with HK Forbidden Super Hero lies in its episodic nature, which becomes tedious once the novelty wears off.

To elaborate, Hentai Kamen`s method of defeating evil usually involves all manner of phallic techniques, including casting hypnotic spells with his crotch, beating villains in the face with his junk, and conjuring a spinning wheel of magma. It`s all hilariously uncomfortable at first, particularly when our masked protagonist first strides onscreen clad in a Borat-inspired Mankiniâ€
