2014 Golden Globe nominations announced!

By Shawne Wang

Probably the biggest surprises movie-wise are nominations for indie darlings Philomena (a drama starring Judi Dench as a woman looking for the son she gave up for adoption) and Her (Spike Jonze`s oddball latest about a writer developing an unusual relationship with an operating system with the voice of Scarlett Johansson). This means early favourites like Blue Jasmine and Fruitvale Station might have suffered from cinematic releases that came too long ago.

The acting fields which are allowed a bumper crop of ten nominees because of the Globes` differentiation between Drama and Comedy/Musical rewards the easy frontrunners (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hanks, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock) alongside some more offbeat choices (Julie Delpy, Greta Gerwig, Oscar Isaac, Joaquin Phoenix).

It`s definitely shaping up to be an interesting awards season stay tuned for more awards coverage!

The 71st Golden Globes will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and will air on 12 January 2014.
